Though not drawn during lockdown and the global pandemic, Walking Cape Woolamai marks the beginning of my love affair with Phillip Island and her panoramic shoreline.
I sat thirty meters from shore on the rocky platform that lies exposed at Speedies Beach. There, blown by the wind, eaten by March flies, chased by the cold, sunned on, rained on and threatened by the incoming tide, I drew and listened and discovered that the changing textures and shapes of the shoreline, the play of light and shadow amongst the Ti-tree, the sound of ocean, bird and foot-traffic, the smell of weed, the taste of solitude, is how Cape Woolamai gifts itself to the world, every day.
